THE  PSALTER

The psalms of the Children were sung unaccompanied, at the water. They are set down here as they were sung.

I. A Psalm of the Low Seat

The KING is below the water line.
He has always been below the water line.
His seat is the low seat; his crown is cold water.
He does not rise, for the ground goes down to him.

II. A Psalm of the Reading

We did not find him; he was never lost.
We did not call him; he was already here.
We read the ground rightly, that is all,
and the reading is the covenant, and the covenant is quiet.

III. A Psalm of Increase

He gives increase as a field gives;
he asks as a field asks.
Whoso holds the ground holds of the KING,
and the rent is not money.

IV. A Psalm of the Eighth Day

On the eighth day we go down glad,
and the water is not cold to us,
and the door is not shut to us,
and the KING knows the names of the families,
though the names are not set down.

V. A Psalm of the One

One does not conclude, but is received.
One remains, that the door be not shut.
The Children are glad of the one, and do not name her,
for she is written on the other roll.
